Evolved Management: Self-Healing

In the world of IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Digital Employee Experience (DEX) Management, staying ahead of system issues is a constant battle. IT teams are often flooded with data but starved for time, reacting to problems after they’ve already disrupted an employee’s workday. Proactive monitoring and recommendations make a big difference, yet teams struggle to implement what’s necessary to make employees maximally productive

At Almaden, we believe your tools should do more than just report problems and suggestions. It should be capable of actively assisting in ensuring the reliability of the technical infrastructure that underpins employees’ ability to be productive.

This is why we are thrilled to introduce our new Self-Healing functionality in Collective IQ® (CIQ®), a leading ITAM and DEX solution. Built on top of our powerful new Rules feature, with Notifications and Actions capabilities, this feature transforms CIQ from a robust monitoring and management platform into a self-healing ecosystem that protects the digital employee experience around the clock.

Here is a look at how we built it, how it works, and the massive value it brings to your organization.

The Building Blocks: Rules, Notifications, and Automation

To understand the power of Self-Healing, it helps to look at the three foundational pillars we’ve introduced to the CIQ platform:

  1. Rules: Determination of Metrics, Settings, and Coordination

You can’t fix what you don’t track, and you can’t be effective with a manual system. Dashboards help, as do AI-assisted queries, but the system itself can be more intelligent. CIQ now allows IT staff and analysts to establish sophisticated Rules based on constantly changing asset and experience data, and be advised when important changes occur. These advisories convey levels of urgency and can be assigned actions to be taken.

  • The Value: Instead of wading through noise, you define the exact metrics and thresholds that matter to your business. Whether that’s unauthorized applications having been installed, devices coming online without disk encryption or anti-virus support, or devices running poorly after a defined period of time. The Rules are sufficiently flexible to focus on locations, designated groups of users (e.g. executives or teams of people), work style, and combinations of these attributes and more. Save time, ensure operational compliance and security, and maximize employee efficiency.

  1. Notifications: Automated Awareness

Once a rule is triggered, CIQ’s Notification engine instantly alerts the right people and/or systems.

  • The Value: Communication gaps disappear. Security teams, helpdesk managers, or even the end-users themselves are informed to essential actions can be taken in a timely fashion.

  1. Automation: Unattended and User-Involved Execution

CIQ allows you to tie together specific, pre-configured actions or scripts which react to conditions set in your rules. These address – as you determine – resolutions that help keep your environment performing optimally.

  • The Value: Instead of manually walking through procedures for common or repetitive tasks, IT can automatically deploy targeted solutions and verify results. This frees up valuable staff time while address productivity, compliance, or security issues without delay. Furthermore, it does these activities in a way that they system can operate in a self-sufficient or human-in-the-loop manner.

The Ultimate Combo

Rules, Notifications, and Automation are each incredibly valuable for keeping a hassle-free, watchful eye on the technology infrastructure. Together, and being seamlessly woven into CIQ, they deliver real magic in the form of Self-Healing.

Just imagine…

An employee’s device (unknowingly to the user) is experiencing a critical shortage of disk space (in this example, 95% of the disk is consumed) that threatens to crash their active applications and possibly cause data loss. The fact is that insufficient space is a leading cause of data corruption and lost information.

So, a Rule is created in CIQ that detects the issue as a disk space threshold is crossed. The Rule sends a Notification to the system log while concurrently triggering an Automation script to safely clear system caches and temporary files. A trouble ticket might also be created to procure an additional disk, all without user intervention, as a long-term solution.

The issue is resolved in seconds. The helpdesk never engaged with the employee, that user avoided potential downtime, and corporate productivity was not diminished. True proactive management!

Powerful Tech Made Point-and-Click Easy

We know that powerful tools can sometimes come with steep learning curves. We designed CIQ to be exactly the opposite. “Simple, effective” is more than just a slogan.

  • No-Code Variables: Setting up complex rules and adjusting variables doesn’t require a computer science degree. CIQ leverages intuitive, point-and-click capabilities, making customization incredibly fast and accessible for any IT analyst.
  • Built-in Testing: Nobody wants to accidentally push an automated script to thousands of production endpoints without knowing if it works. CIQ includes a capability to ensure healthy operation of the Self-Healing workflow so you can deploy with confidence. You can verify the logic, check the variables, and ensure proper operation before going live.

Higher Order Value

With the introduction of the new Rules feature, CIQ delivers a massive leap forward in how IT teams can proactively monitor and manage their IT assets and employee digital experiences. With the inclusion of seamless, point-and-click automation, Self-Healing becomes a reality and heightened level of business value.

By shifting your IT operation from reactive troubleshooting to proactive detection, analysis, and self-healing automation, you aren’t just managing assets—you are assuring a flawless digital experience for every employee in your enterprise.
